America is beginning to realize the threat and adversity, which has been caused due to illiteracy. The nation is slowly becoming conscious of the reality that huge numbers of its grown-ups lack the necessary literacy skills, which is required for prospering and surviving in the present increasingly complicated society.
There are various ways, through which we can ensure the increase of literacy rate amongst the future generations. It will not only help to change people’s life, but will also help the society to prosper immensely. One of the ways is through family literacy. Family literacy is actually the manner in which children and parents as well as other family members utilize literacy within home as well as within their community. From the time when kids are born, they slowly learn to cultivate values, beliefs and attitudes relating to the world as well as the objects in it. The way a child is brought up will play an important role in shaping his or her future.
Adults must offer encouragement, educational support and cultural values, so that children can move forward in society. Early literacy can start from home. In the early childhood period, when the child has not yet started going to school, parents can read books to their children and try to make them follow it. An early educational advancement can help to develop a child's learning skills. Parents can show literary support through a lot of ways, for instance, by using writing or drawings to convey ideas, by writing letters or notes to share messages, adhering to written directions, writing lists and maintaining records, reading story books or sharing ideas through reading, writing and conversation. The early development of writing and reading skills play an important role in helping a child to becoming a literate adult.
Children, who develop superior writing and reading skills through family literacy, possess a better chance to progress in life. |
